The advantage of 3D coronal plane visualization helps to identify the intrauterine pathologies, defects, synechia, polyp formation

It helps to identify the source of the lesion (location)  and number in cases of menstrual irregularities with accurate diagnosis.

The endometrium shows a rounded dense small intracavitary polyp in the mid-fundal area of the cavity.

The endometrial cavity is  normal inverted-triangular in shape.

  • The smooth contour of the outlines of the corpus and cervix, the interlacing myometrium which fades gradually at the cervical part.
  • The endometrial triangle with its straight lines, tapering into the cervical canal.
  • The endometrial cavity shows a small hyperechogenic mass and projecting into it.

Longitudinal views of the uterus demonstrates the uterus in the axial plane from the fundus to external os.

  • The myometrium is homogeneous.
  • The endometrial line is trilaminar with a dense focal polypoid mass arising from the fundal area and occupying the upper part of the endometrial cavity and possibly it is mucosal in origin.
The clinical presentation varies from intermenstrual, premenstrual spotting or rarely post-coital bloody discharge.
Doppler study of the endometrial polyp differentiates it from other endometrial lesions by demonstration of the feeding vessel.

Fibroid Uterus Ultrasound Video Lecture

Uterine fibroids are the commonest female genital tract tumor, occurring in 25 to 30 % of the female population.

  • It arises from the smooth muscle layer of the uterus and the majority of the tumors are corporeal in origin.
  • Cervical fibroids are rare.
  • The tumor location is variable.
    • Interstitial, submucosal, subserosal and broad ligamentary are common.
  • The intracavitary myomas are associated with severe symptoms:
    1. Menorrhagia.
    2. Polymenorrhagia.
